On June 1-July 31 2023, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) will carry out
Agricultural Census 2023 (ST2023) throughout Indonesia. ST2023 is an Agricultural Census
the seventh carried out by BPS, since it started in 1963. The Agricultural Census was conducted
once every ten years in the year ending in 3 according to the mandate of the Republic of Indonesia Law
Indonesia Number 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics. Implementation of ST2023 also refers to
the world food agency or FAO program.

ST2023 aims to provide agricultural structure data, especially for units

ST2023 will cover seven sub-sectors, namely food crops, horticulture, plantations,
animal husbandry, fisheries, forestry, and agricultural services. In ST2023, agricultural business actors
data will be recorded throughout Indonesia, both individual agricultural business units and agricultural business units
others (groups), as well as agricultural companies with legal status. A total of 190 thousand
officers throughout Indonesia were deployed by BPS to record data on agricultural business actors.
Various innovations were made in ST2023, one of which was in terms of methods
data collection ST2023 uses multimode data collection, namely the Paper method
Assisted Personal Interviewing (PAPI), Computed Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI),
and Computer Assisted Web Interviewing (CAWI). ST2023 is designed to gain
international standard results using guidelines from FAO. Therefore,
it is hoped that ST2023 can produce better data accuracy than the census
previously. What's different is that ST2023 is able to capture strategic agricultural issues
national, such as urban farming, millennial farmers, agricultural modernization, and also income
farmers as a proxy for farmer welfare.
