KemenKopUKM Collaborates with BPS to Conduct Complete Data Collection on Cooperatives and MSMEs 2023

September 15, 2023 | BPS Activities

Jakarta – The Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (KemenKopUKM) is collaborating with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) to carry out the 2023 Complete Data Collection on Cooperatives and MSMEs (PL-KUMKM) as an effort to encourage the creation of a single database of Cooperatives and MSMEs in Indonesia.

From the results of the PL-KUMKM carried out by the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises in 2022, nine million MSME data were obtained by name by address, then in 2023 the data collection will target 215 regencies/cities in 32 provinces (except DIY and Bali Provinces) on non-agricultural businesses that are settled or not permanent.

"We invite the Heads of Departments in charge of Cooperatives and MSMEs, as well as the Heads of BPS in all Provinces to collaborate with each other in carrying out the process of updating the data that has been collected. "So that the existence of single data on cooperatives and MSMEs can provide factual information and be able to navigate the MSME business in the future," said Minister of Cooperatives and UMKM (MenKopUKM) Teten Masduki in his official statement.

Minister Teten added that the existence of single data is important for the 64 million MSMEs in Indonesia which are still faced with various challenges, including access to financing, market access, and adequate information technology.

"To help MSME players overcome these problems, the Government needs the availability of data and information that can provide an overview of the needs of MSME players in the country, as well as for planning and evaluation purposes," said Minister Teten.

Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that the availability of a single database of Cooperatives and MSMEs that is up to date and managed sustainably as a single source of truth is very vital for the government and other data users.

"The availability of a single database for Cooperatives and MSMEs is also useful in supporting the accuracy and effectiveness of government policies and targeting community empowerment programs. "Therefore, I invite all MSME players to participate in PL-KUMKM23 by conveying real information to our officers," said Amalia.

The development of a single database itself has several urgencies for the development of MSMEs in the country, including being able to become a means of development planning, a basis for determining targeted beneficiaries, measuring MSME performance using certain indicators, and measuring the effectiveness of MSME empowerment programs through monitoring and evaluation.

Complete data collection on Cooperatives and MSMEs 2023 itself will start from 15 September to 14 October 2023 for data collection, where data is collected using the door-to-door method with the CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing) data collection mode by BPS officers equipped with identification cards. Apart from asking for a questionnaire, officers will geotag and take special photos of cooperative and MSME buildings.

Meanwhile, the information collected includes, among other things, business unit/company information which includes business name and address, information on business actors, and information on business characteristics. Until then, it is hoped that this data collection will be able to produce a single database output of cooperatives and MSMEs by name by address based on demographics and business characteristics.
