Abstract

In
September 2018, the number of poor people in South Sumatra reached 1,076.40
thousand people (12.82%), a decrease of 10.36 thousand people compared to the
conditions in September 2017 which amounted to 1,086.76 thousand people
(13.10%) or down 0.28 percent.

The percentage of poor people in urban areas
in September 2017 was 12.36 percent, up to 12.43 percent in September 2018.
While the percentage of poor people in rural areas fell from 13.54 percent in
September 2017 to 13.05 percent in September 2018.

The role of food commodities on the poverty
line (GK) is far greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing,
clothing, education and health). The contribution of the Food Poverty Line
(GKM) to the Poverty Line in September 2018 in urban areas was 71.31 percent,
this condition was not much different from the condition in September 2017
which was 71.62 percent.

Food
commodities that have a large influence on the poverty line in urban areas are
relatively the same as in rural areas, including rice, filtered clove
cigarettes, chicken meat, chicken eggs, instant noodles, granulated sugar, red
chillies and shallots. While non-food commodities are housing, electricity,
gasoline, education and toiletries.

In the period September 2017-September 2018,
the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) both show a
decrease.
