Abstract

 The export value of South Sumatra Province in May 2020 was US $ 240.84 million, a decrease of 16.90 percent compared to exports in April 2020 which amounted to US $ 289.80 million. Exports in May 2020 were mostly directed to China at US $ 102.93 million (42.74 percent), South Korea at US $ 19.35 million (8.03 percent) and Japan at US $ 17.01 million ( 7.06 percent).

 The five main export commodities from South Sumatra Province which were the largest in May 2020 were pulp US $ 95.19 million (39.52 percent); rubber valued at US $ 58.60 million (24.33 percent); coal valued at US $ 38.06 million (15.80 percent); tissue paper US $ 15.03 million (6.24 percent); and oil yields of US $ 9.98 (4.14 percent).

 South Sumatra Province's exports for the period January - May 2020 amounted to US $ 1,435.73 million, down 15.22 percent compared to the value of exports in the January-May 2019 period of US $ 1,693.41 million.

 The import value of South Sumatra in May 2020 was US $ 57.95 million or decreased by 3.02 percent compared to April 2020 which was US $ 59.76 million. Most of the imports came from China at US $ 42.04 million (72.55 percent), Malaysia at US $ 3.04 million (5.25 percent) and Belarus at US $ 2.80 million (4.83 percent).

 South Sumatra Province imports for the period January - May 2020 amounted to US $ 259.57 million, up by 27.93 percent compared to the value of imports in the January - May 2019 period of US $ 202.90 million.

 The types of goods imported with the greatest value in May 2020 were machineries / aircraft mechanics of US $ 36.21 million (62.48 percent), fertilizer of US $ 11.06 (19.08 percent), and plastics and goods from plastic US $ 1.26 million (2.17 percent).

 The total foreign trade in South Sumatra in May 2020 was a surplus of US $ 182.89 million.
